Atletico Madrid move for Conor Gallagher

Atletico Madrid have started taking concrete steps with the aim of signing Conor Gallagher from Chelsea this summer, according to Spanish outlet Relevo, having already contacted the London Blues about it.

The 24-year-old midfield enforcer is currently representing England at the Euros, and he made a substitute appearance in their 1-0 win over Serbia in the opening round of Group C. In 2023/24, he made an impressive total of 50 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring seven goals and producing nine assists.

Gallagher’s contract with Chelsea expires in 12 months, and his future at the club is reportedly in serious doubt. Several other clubs are said to be monitoring his situation, but it seems Atletico have jumped the queue at this point. At the Rojiblancos they believe he is exactly the type of player needed for their midfield section as they plan their squad for the upcoming season.

Aston Villa have been mentioned recently as one of the clubs interested in Gallagher’s services, but it appears the player would rather choose another destination.
