Competition: Spanish Super Cup

Market: Barcelona win

Odds: 2/3 @ 888sport

With the Spanish Super Cup up for grabs on Wednesday night, Barcelona and Real Sociedad will face off at the Estadio Nuevo Arcángel in Córdoba.

Starting with Real Sociedad, while they might have thought they had turned a real corner thanks to a 1-0 win against Athletic Bilbao when returning from the festive break, Imanol Alguacil’s men have come crashing back down to earth. Drastically struggling to match a similar level that saw them shock many when opening the 2020/21 campaign, the Basque outfit have only continued to tumble down the La Liga table. Last seen over the weekend when getting hit with an action-packed 3-2 loss away at Sevilla, La Real find themselves on a run of form that has seen them win just one of their last 12 matchups across all formats, a run that stems all the way back to November 22nd. Sacrificing their spot in the Champions League positions, Sociedad certainly face a stern test on Wednesday night.

As for the former champions, while Barcelona might have initially struggled to find their feet under new boss Ronald Koeman, the Spanish giants are enjoying a recent purple patch. Putting on what was a thumping display over the weekend, the former Holland manager saw his side land a rampant 4-0 win away at Granada. Skyrocketing their way up the table and now mixing it back in the title chase, Barca find themselves enjoying a three-match winning run and arguably playing their best football so far this season. Unbeaten in each of their last eight matchups across all competitions and appearing to have bounced back from that Champions League defeat at the hands of Juventus last month, Koeman’s men also hold a stunning record against Wednesday’s opponents. Winning nine of their last 10 meetings against Sociedad, we’re backing a similar outcome in midweek.
