Barcelona 6-0 Real Madrid (12-2 agg): Clasico thrashing seals Champions League semi-final spot

Barcelona confirmed their spot in the Women’s Champions League semi-finals in style as they thumped Real Madrid 6-0 to seal an emphatic 12-2 win on aggregate.

The damage had already been done following a 6-2 triumph in the first leg, but Barcelona did not let up as Caroline Graham Hansen and Alexia Putellas starred on Thursday.

Pere Romeu’s side extended their aggregate advantage in the eighth minute through Putellas, who tucked home after Ewa Pajor had seen her shot saved by Misa.

Barcelona doubled their lead seven minutes later with Putellas once again involved as she saw her cross headed in by Hansen, who towered above Yasmim at the back post.

Madrid captain Misa then produced two stunning stops in quick succession to deny Hansen and Pajor, but she could do nothing to stop Irene Paredes in the 27th minute, with the defender nodding in Hansen’s deep corner.

The first-half rout was completed soon after by Pajor, who prodded in at the second attempt after seeing her initial headed effort brilliantly thwarted by the visiting goalkeeper.

Barcelona got their fifth 10 minutes after the restart when Hansen twisted and turned inside the box before lofting a strike over Misa and into the bottom-left corner, though there was still more time to pile further misery on their opponents.

A well-constructed move saw Patri Guijarro release Clara Serrajordi into the box, with the substitute, just a minute after coming on, squaring for Esmee Brugts to finish first time.

Data Debrief: Putellas makes history on milestone outing

The Camp Nou was a fitting venue for Putellas to make her 500th appearance in all competitions for Barcelona, and with her early strike, she became the first Spanish women to reach 30 Champions League goals.

And her finish teed up another dominant display in this fabled fixture. Barcelona have now won 24 of their 25 meetings with Madrid in all competitions (L1), while the Blaugrana have won each of their 13 meetings in cup competitions by an aggregate score of 51-7.

Barcelona were worthy of their win, too. They generated a mammoth expected goals (xG) total of 5.36 from their 33 attempts, 14 of which were on target, compared to Madrid’s 1.07 from their eight attempts, though they failed to force a save out of Cata Coll.
