Ben White set for Arsenal medical

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White is set to undergo his medical ahead of the proposed move to Arsenal on Wednesday, according to Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old caught the attention of the wider football public with fine performances on loan with Leeds United in the Championship in 2019-20, as Marcelo Bielsa’s team strode towards the subsequent Premier League promotion. Leeds were very keen on making the switch permanent last year, but Brighton knocked their efforts back, judging rightly that the player’s stock would only rise with time.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is thought to be keen on adding a centre-back who can start attacks from the back, having lost the services of David Luiz at the end of last season. The agreement between the two clubs is set at £50 million and includes a sell-on clause as well. Arsenal previously had two bids rejected, one of £40m, the other £47m, before finally agreeing to Brighton’s terms.
