Competition: League Cup

Market: Accrington Stanley win

Odds: 21/20 @ 888sport

Two sides who will be hoping to extend on their League Cup in midweek, Accrington will welcome Tranmere to the Wham Stadium on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, after managing to muster a top-half finish last season, Accrington could have their sights set on mounting a legitimate play-off charge this time around. After opening the 2022/23 League One campaign with an action-packed 2-2 draw at home against Charlton on July 30th, John Coleman’s men also impressed a few days ago. Last seen over the weekend picking up a 1-0 victory away at Shrewsbury, the Reds should be smelling the chance to keep up their recent momentum here. Signing off their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 win against Championship returners Sunderland this summer, Accrington also caught the eye with their rugged displays at the Wham Stadium last year. It should be highlighted, Coleman’s side lost just one of their final 14 League One matchups in Lancashire last season.

As for the visitors, although Tranmere might have spent last season battling it out in the play-off chase, Micky Mellon’s men have really struggled to keep up that momentum this time around. Along with signing off their summer preparations with a 4-1 drumming against Championship outfit Huddersfield, the Merseyside-based outfit are yet to pick up a League Two point this season. Along with opening the 2022/23 campaign with a 2-1 loss at home against Stevenage, the Whites were last seen over the weekend putting in another downbeat display. Eventually getting hit with a 1-0 defeat away at Mansfield, Tranmere could be in for a stern test when they travel to Lancashire on Tuesday night. Likewise, winning just one of their final 10 matchups away from Prenton Park last season, we’re backing a home victory here.

Bet: Accrington Stanley 21/20 to beat Tranmere Rovers in Tuesday’s League Cup contest @ 888sport
