Bitesize Prediction: Burnley vs Coventry – 14/01/23

Competition: Championship

Market: Burnley win

Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport

Looking to extend on what has been a remarkable purple patch this weekend, Burnley will host Coventry on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, extending on their FA Cup adventure last weekend as they claimed a stellar 4-2 victory away at Premier League outfit Bournemouth, Burnley are enjoying what has been an outstanding purple patch this season. Making the decision to appoint former Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany last summer, the Clarets are now skyrocketing towards an immediate top-flight return in 2023. With the mood around Turf Moor at a red-hot high, Burnley now find themselves holding a five-point buffer at the top of the Championship table. Winning each of their last four outings across all formats, there is no doubt that Saturday’s hosts will be looking to lay down another clinical marker here. In fact, winning 12 of their previous 14 appearances – a run that stems all the way back to October 19th – Kompany’s high-flying squad have also gained a fearsome reputation for their free-scoring displays in the final third.

As for the visitors, eventually crashing out of the FA Cup last weekend following a stunning 4-3 loss at home against National League outfit Wrexham, it appears that Coventry are enduring a recent wobble. Still dealing with some rather public issues behind the scenes, the Blues will be more than aware that they face a huge task here. Mustering just a single victory from any of their last seven straight matchups across all formats – a run that stems back to November 12th – Mark Robins will have a real headache over his side’s extended issues at the back. With their recent blip highlighted by a 3-1 drumming at the hands of Sheffield United last month, Coventry have also come tumbling out the top-half of the Championship table. Suffering back-to-back away day defeats against the Blades and Reading, a home win on Saturday afternoon can be found at appealing odds.
