According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have offered Rodri a new contract, with his current one having just over a year left to run.
The Spaniard, mostly described as a defensive midfielder while representing a significant threat at the other end of the pitch as well, will turn 30 this summer, and he has a big decision to make. He recently spoke very openly about potentially playing for Real Madrid at some point. Yet, there is little doubt about him being emotionally connected to Manchester City, the club where he developed into one of the finest players in the world in his position and won it all – not least the treble (Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League) in 2023, and the Ballon d’Or the following year as a regular starter for Spain at their glorious Euro 2024 campaign.
However, he spent the majority of the 2024-25 season recovering from an ACL injury and his role in Pep Guardiola’s team has consequently diminished to an extent. And yet, City still look far better with him patrolling in the middle of the park than without him.
Real are interested, but if Rodri refuses the new contract offer, City are still expected to demand a large fee for this summer, or keep him for one more year before letting him go for free.
