Competition: Championship
Market: Coventry win
Odds: 4/5 @ BetUS
Battling it out in the play-off chase, Coventry will welcome Millwall to the Midlands on Sunday lunchtime.
Starting with the hosts, extending on their FA Cup adventure earlier in the week as they secured a 4-1 romp at home against Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry have once again received a string of plaudits this season. Although the Sky Blues might have suffered play-off final heartbreak last year, Mark Robins’ side haven’t shown any signs of a hangover. Battling it out in the top-six chase and with the mood in their camp at a real high, Coventry have remarkably lost just one of their previous 14 straight appearances across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to December 2nd. Opening this weekend’s fixtures sat just one-point adrift of breaking back into the play-off places, Robins’ side have continued to gain a reputation for their extended success on home soil. On a purple patch that is highlighted by a stellar 3-1 romp against runaway leaders Leicester on January 13th, Coventry are unbeaten in all of their last 10 showdowns in front of their own supporters.
As for the visitors, while Millwall might have opened the New Year in the midst of a welcomed flurry, the Lions have largely come crashing back down to earth. Last seen putting in another toothless display as they slumped to a 1-0 loss away at Hull, Joe Edwards’ men almost find themselves sat in Championship limbo. However, with some around south London potentially looking over their shoulder at a looming relegation scrap, Millwall have collected just a single point from any of their previous four second-tier appearances. Likewise, crashing out of the FA Cup last month following an action-packed 3-2 defeat at home against Leicester, the one-time Chelsea coach will have a real headache over his side’s extended issues on the road. Including a 2-0 defeat against bottom-three contenders QPR, Sunday’s guests have claimed just a single Championship victory outside of the capital since November 11th. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing a home win here.
