Competition: League Two
Market: Both teams to score
Odds: 8/11 @ Pribet
In what could prove to be an enjoyable League Two showdown on Monday night, Fleetwood will welcome local rivals Accrington Stanley to Highbury.
Starting with the hosts, while Fleetwood might have come flying out of the traps when opening up the new campaign, Charlie Adam’s men have come crashing back down to earth in a worrying fashion. Putting in another downbeat display last week as they eventually fell to a routine 3-1 loss at the hands of Swindon, the Fisherman have recorded just a single victory from any of their previous 10 appearances across all competitions. Opening December with an action-packed 4-2 defeat against Doncaster, the one-time Liverpool midfielder has seen his downbeat squad put just a single League Two victory on the board since the start of October. Watching their EFL Trophy adventure come to an end last month as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Bolton, Fleetwood have also continued to show some glaring issues on home soil. Despite playing out a dramatic 2-2 stalemate against Salford on October 29th, Tuesday’s hosts have claimed just a sole League Two win at Highbury so far this season.
As for the visitors, although Accrington might have just about dragged themselves over the finishing line last season as they managed to keep hold of their League Two status, Stanley find themselves at the heart of another fourth-tier scrap. Last seen getting hit with a 2-1 defeat at home against Bromley, John Doolan’s men are at the centre of another relegation scrap. Opening December with a woeful 5-2 drumming at the hands of Grimsby, the Reds are without a win from any of their previous four League Two appearances. Playing out respective 2-2 draws against AFC Wimbledon and Swindon last month, Tuesday’s guests have gained a reputation for their defensive issues. In fact, Accrington have shipped at least a pair of goals in all of their last five matchups across all competitions. Likewise, Doolan’s side have registered just a single League Two clean sheet since the middle of October. With Accrington seeing six of their previous eight showdowns away from the Crown Ground finish with both teams finding the net, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
