Bitesize Prediction: Hibernian vs Celtic – 07/02/24

Competition: Scottish Premiership

Market: Celtic win

Odds: 2/5 @ Pribet

Hoping to extend their buffer at the top of the Premiership table, Celtic will travel to Easter Road on Wednesday night when they meet Hibernian.

Starting with the hosts, last seen over the weekend putting in a nightmare display as they slumped to a woeful 3-0 drumming at home against St. Mirren, Nick Montgomery’s side are enduring a major Premiership struggle. Battling it out in the bottom-half of the table, the Edinburgh-based outfit have come under some increasing scrutiny. Signing off 2023 with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Hearts, the former Central Coast Mariners boss has seen his downbeat squad fail to win any of their previous six Premiership appearances. With their extended crisis highlighted by a 3-0 defeat against Scottish giants Rangers, Hibernian have also gained a reputation for their continued defensive issues. In fact, Wednesday’s hosts have shipped 12 strikes on their six-match winless rut. Likewise, hit with a 4-1 loss when they travelled to Glasgow for their reverse Premiership showdown against Celtic on December 6th, Montgomery’s men should be bracing themselves for a stern examination at Easter Road.

As for the visitors, while Celtic might still have Rangers breathing firmly down their neck, the defending Scottish champions are tipped as a leading contender to make more domestic history in 2024. Although Brendan Rodgers’ men might have been last seen over the weekend settling for a 1-1 stalemate away at Aberdeen, the former Leicester boss should still find the mood in his camp at a real high. Unbeaten in all of their previous seven domestic appearances across all competitions, the Hoops should be excited by a rampant record against Wednesday’s hosts. Including that 4-1 victory when they welcomed His to Glasgow back on December 6th, Celtic have lost just one of their previous 21 straight meetings – a run that stems all the way back to 2018. Opening Tuesday’s trip to Easter Road holding a two-point buffer over the chasing pack, Rodgers’ side should be smelling a golden opportunity here. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are expecting an away victory in midweek.
