Bitesize Prediction: Preston vs Rotherham – 29/03/24

Competition: Championship

Market: Preston win

Odds: 8/15 @ Pribet

Looking to make up some crucial ground in the play-off chase, Preston will welcome Rotherham to Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Preston might have a real battle on their hands in this season’s play-off chase, the Lilywhites have continued to receive a string of praise this season. Last seen heading into March’s international break with a 1-0 victory away at Plymouth, Ryan Lowe’s men should be smelling the chance to make another statement here. In fact, the Lancashire-based outfit have lost just one of their previous nine Championship appearances – a run that stems back to January 21st. Signing off February with a stunning 3-0 romp away at Coventry, Preston will also be excited by their continued success at the back. It should be highlighted, Lowe’s men have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four showdowns against second-tier opposition. Likewise, suffering just a single Championship defeat at Deepdale since opening up the New Year, the former Bury boss should be relishing a return from the fortnight interval this weekend.

As for the visitors, although Rotherham might have eventually clung to their Championship status last season, the Millers have endured a public Championship nightmare this time around. Sat rock-bottom of the table and marking their return from March’s international break sat 19 points adrift off second-tier safety, Leam Richardson’s men have also broken a string of unwanted records this year. In fact, despite snatching a 0-0 stalemate against Huddersfield prior to the fortnight interval, Saturday’s guests have collected just a single point from any of their previous 10 straight Championship appearances. It should also be highlighted, Rotherham have failed to win any of their previous 15 contests across all competitions – a run that stems all the way back to a 1-0 win against Middlesbrough on Boxing Day. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class between Saturday’s opponents, we are predicting a home victory for the play-off outsiders this weekend.
