Looking to extend on what is a late charge for this year’s Serie A crown, Juventus will make the trip to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday evening when they meet Sampdoria.
Starting with the hosts, last seen putting in another worrying display, there is no doubt that many in Sampdoria’s camp will be firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Holding just a three-point buffer from slipping into the relegation play-off spot, Head Coach Marco Giampaolo does find growing pressure on his shoulders. Eventually coming off the back of a 2-1 defeat away at Udinese, the Blucerchiati have lost three of their last four top-flight contests. With their recent downbeat run highlighted by a 4-0 drumming at the hands of Atalanta on February 28th, Sampdoria have also managed to record just a pair of victories across all formats since the middle of December. Suffering a 4-1 defeat when they made the trip to Turin earlier in the year, Giampaolo’s strugglers should be bracing themselves for a stern test here.
As for the visitors, while Juventus might still find themselves tipped as a real outsider in this year’s Serie A title chase, the Italian giants are in the midst of a recent purple patch. Last seen claiming a hard-fought 1-0 win against Spezia on home soil, the former champions are sat in pole position to clinch a Champions League spot this season. Winning each of their last three outings, including a Coppa Italia victory against Fiorentina earlier in the month, Head Coach Massimiliano Allegri has also seen his side remarkably lose just a single outing since way back on November 27th. Claiming that thumping 4-1 win when they faced off against Sampdoria in January, Juve should also be boosted by a rampant record against the relegation scrappers. Given the recent gulf in class, we’re backing an away victory here.
