Bitesize Prediction: Sheffield United vs West Brom – 09/02/22

Competition: Championship

Market: Sheffield United win

Odds: 11/8 @ 888sport

Hoping to move within touching distance of the play-off places in midweek, Sheffield United will host a struggling Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Sheffield United might have marked their Championship return in the midst of a real nightmare, the Blades have bounced back in an eye-catching fashion. Last seen over the weekend picking up a deserved 2-1 win away at Birmingham, Paul Heckingbottom’s men now have their sights set on making a shock late charge for the play-off places. Storming their way up the table, Wednesday’s guests have collected 10 points from their last four second-tier matchups, including three wins on the spin. Looking to lay down another marker when they return to Bramall Lane in midweek, it should also be highlighted that United have lost just a single Championship contest since the start of November. With attacking talisman Billy Sharp bagging three goals in his last four outings, Heckingbottom’s side should be smelling a chance here.

As for the visitors, parting ways with now-former boss Valerien Ismael last week and bringing in Steve Bruce, West Brom have the feel of a side desperately seeking some kind of boost. While the Baggies might have opened the 2021/22 campaign tipped as a leading pick to book a Premier League return, they now find themselves in a battle to clinch a play-off spot. Freefalling their way down the Championship table, the Midlands-based side were last seen signing off January with a 2-0 loss away at Millwall. In fact, along with losing four of their last five matchups across all formats, it should also be noted that West Brom have recorded just a single victory from their previous eight contests, a run that stems back to December 11th. Given the recent gulf in class, we’re backing a home win here.
