Hoping to find a much-needed boost on Friday night, Borussia Dortmund will make the trip to the Mercedes-Benz Arena when they meet Stuttgart.

Starting with the hosts, throwing away the lead away at fellow relegation scrappers Bielefeld on their return to action last weekend, Stuttgart still find themselves at the heart of a real scrap. Having to settle for a 1-1 draw on their travels last time out, Head Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo finds his side holding just a one-point buffer from slipping into the bottom-three. However, while Die Roten might know that they face a tough task on paper here, they have shown some much-needed improvements over the past month. Heading into March’s international break with an action-packed 3-2 victory against Augsburg, fans around the Mercedes-Benz Arena find their side enjoying a four-match unbeaten run in Germany’s top-flight. Picking up back-to-back 3-2 wins at home against Borussia Mönchengladbach and Augsburg, some in Stuttgart’s camp could be smelling a chance here.

As for the visitors, marking their return from March’s international break with a woeful display in rural Germany, Borussia Dortmund really have the feel of a side seeking some stability. Eventually getting hit with a shock 4-1 drumming at the hands of RB Leipzig, Head Coach Marco Rose has seen his side show some real inconsistencies this season. Crashing out of the Europa League last month thanks to a dramatic 6-4 aggregate defeat against Scottish champions Rangers, the former Bayer Leverkusen boss has seen his side gain a reputation for their extended issues at the back. Now sat nine points adrift of Bayern Munich, Rose’s side should at least be boosted by an eye-catching record against Friday’s hosts. Including a 2-1 victory earlier in the season, they have won five of their previous six meetings against Stuttgart.
