Competition: A-League

Market: Sydney FC win

Odds: 5/6 @ Pribet

In what is a heavyweight A-League showdown on Saturday morning, Sydney will welcome Melbourne City to the Allianz Stadium.

Starting with the hosts, putting in another impressive performance last week as they secured a deserved 2-1 victory at home against Adelaide, Sydney are enjoying a recent A-League flurry. Making a real statement earlier in the month as they stormed their way to a 3-1 romp away at Central Coast, Ufuk Talay’s side should find the mood in their camp at a real high. Skyrocketing their way into the top-half and unbeaten in all of their previous five domestic showdowns, the Sky Blues have also suffered just a single defeat since opening the New Year. With their eye-catching run underlined by a 4-0 win against Newcastle on January 19th, the Australian giants have also found a real clinical edge in the final third. In fact, Sydney have notched at least a pair of strikes in eight of their last nine outings. Looking to pick up another major scalp this weekend, Talay’s men have also continued to shine with their performances on home soil. The former A-League champions have won all of their previous four contests at the Allianz by an aggregate score of 13-4.

As for the visitors, although Melbourne City might have signed off January with a much-needed 1-0 victory at home against Adelaide, Aurelio Vidmar’s side have come crashing back down to earth. Coming under real scrutiny earlier in the month as they slumped to a 5-1 drumming at the hands of Brisbane, the former Adelaide boss has seen his downbeat squad muster just a single victory from any of their previous six domestic showdowns. With their extended struggle underlined by an action-packed 4-2 defeat against Perth on February 2nd, it appears there could be some mounting pressure on Vidmar’s shoulders at AAMI Park. Slipping out of the top-six chase, Melbourne have also continued to show some glaring issues on the road. Including a 2-1 loss against Central Coast last month, Saturday’s guests have lost all of their previous three A-League away fixtures by an aggregate score of 11-3. Given what has been a huge recent gulf in class, we are backing a home victory here.
