Looking to enter the Christmas break with a statement at the Estadio de la Cerámica, Villarreal will host a struggling Alaves on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Villarreal might have struggled with their consistency since opening the 2021/22 campaign, the Yellow Submarine have managed to find a much-welcomed boost. Shocking many as they stormed their way to the knockout stage of this year’s Champions League with an action-packed 3-2 win away at Serie A outfit Atalanta earlier in the month, Unai Emery’s men now find themselves in the midst of a four-match winning run across all formats. Putting in another eye-catching display over the weekend as they stormed their way to a thumping 3-1 win away at Real Sociedad, the former Arsenal boss now has his sights set on finding a route back into the top-half. Appearing to have really found their feet in the final third, Villarreal should be smelling a golden chance when they return to the Estadio de la Cerámica here.

As for the visitors, although Villarreal might be looking to extend on their recent purple patch on Tuesday night, Alaves have the feel of a side really seeking some kind of boost. Dropping into the bottom-three and with many tipping them as a leading relegation pick this season, the pressure is firmly on Javier Calleja’s shoulders. Last seen on Saturday afternoon getting hit with a 2-0 loss away at Rayo Vallecano, Babazorros have failed to win any of their last five La Liga outings, collecting just a pair of points. Knowing that they should face another stern test away at the defending Europa League champions on Tuesday, it should also be noted that Alaves suffered 3-1 loss when they made the trip to the Estadio de la Cerámica last season. Given the recent gulf in class between the two sides, we’re backing a home victory here.

Bet: Gerard Moreno 7/5 to score anytime against Alaves in Tuesday’s La Liga battle @ 888sport
