Competition: Championship
Market: West Brom win
Odds: 3/5 @ 888sport
Seeking a boost when they return to the Hawthorns on Monday afternoon, West Brom will host relegation scrappers QPR.
Starting with the hosts, putting in a nightmare display away at Rotherham on Friday afternoon as they eventually slumped to a 3-1 defeat, West Brom have the feel of a squad seeking a much-needed boost. However, while Carlos Corberan’s men might have failed to win any of their last three Championship contests, the one-time Huddersfield boss is still dreaming of the chance to mount a late play-off charge. Although the Baggies might face a real uphill struggle over the coming weeks, West Brom will be glad to make a return to home soil here. Despite showing a string of issues outside of the Midlands this season, Corberan’s side have continued to gain a reputation for their success at the Hawthorns. On a flurry that is highlighted by a 2-0 victory against promotion contenders Middlesbrough on February 25th, it should be noted that Monday’s hosts are unbeaten in each of their last 12 straight appearances in front of their own supporters – a run that stems all the way back to October 29th.
As for the visitors, while QPR might have appointed Gareth Ainsworth back in February, the Hoops have only continued on a woeful run of form. Last seen a few days ago slumping to a 2-0 defeat at home against Preston, the former Wycombe boss has seen his side come free-falling down the Championship table. Now at the heart of a relegation scrap and tipped as a standout contender to lose their second-tier status this season, Monday’s guests have lost nine of their last 10 appearances – a run that stems all the way back to a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield on February 4th. Coming under a huge amount of scrutiny on either side of the international break, it should also be highlighted that QPR have bagged just a single Championship victory since the middle of December. Hit with a 1-0 loss when they welcomed West Brom to the capital for their reverse meeting on November 5th, we are expecting a similar outcome here.
