Bitesize Prediction: West Ham vs Southampton – 26/12/21

Competition: Premier League

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport

Desperate to find a boost on Boxing Day, West Ham will welcome Southampton to the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a matchup that could see chances at both ends.

Starting with the hosts, while West Ham might have put in a spirited display across the capital in midweek, the Hammers saw their EFL Cup run come to an abrupt end. Suffering a 2-1 loss away at Tottenham, David Moyes’ men do have the feel of a side seeking some kind of boost on Boxing Day. Despite once again gaining a string of plaudits when opening the 2021/22 campaign, the east London outfit have managed to win just one of their previous six Premier League contests. Losing their spot in the top-four, the one-time Manchester United boss has also seen his side gain a recent reputation for their issues at the back. However, last seen on home soil landing an action-packed 3-2 win against European champions Chelsea, West Ham should at least be smelling a chance on Sunday afternoon.

As for the visitors, while Southampton might have managed to snatch a point away at Crystal Palace last time out, it does not cover what has been an extended downbeat run for Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side. With many in their camp still firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone, the Saints have failed to win any of their last five Premier League matchups, a run that stems back to November 11th. With their recent issues highlighted by a 2-1 defeat against Norwich last month, the former RB Leipzig boss will be worried by his side’s issues on the road. Sunday’s guests have managed to collect just a single point from any of their last four top-flight fixtures away from St. Mary’s. In a contest that could once again see a string of chances at both ends of the pitch, we’re backing a lively outcome here.
