With a real chance to break themselves into the top-two in Group G, Blackpool will host Leeds’ U21’s at an empty Bloomfield Road on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while many in Blackpool’s camp would have been rightfully worried after the Oranges opened the New Year by managing to win just one of their opening six League One outings, Neil Critchley’s men have managed to find their feet. Extending on their FA Cup adventure after picking up what turned out to be a routine 3-0 romp against lower league Eastbourne Borough over the weekend, fans around Lancashire find their side in the midst of a three-match winning run across all competitions and even more impressive, the former Liverpool coach has seen his side claim the victory in four of their last five appearances. Still boosted by back-to-back third-tier wins against Wigan and Burton, there is no doubt that Blackpool will be looking to keep up their recent purple patch in midweek.

As for the visitors, suffering more EFL Trophy heartbreak last time out as they were hit with a penalties defeat against League Two outfit Barrow when opening November, Leeds’ U21’s have struggled to make any kind of dent in Group G. Unsuprisngly seen as a landslide pick to lift the wooden spoon this time around, the Whites’ youth outfit also opened this year’s tournament with what was a woeful display against Accrington Stanley back in September. Blown away, they slumped to what turned out to be a thumping 7-0 drumming at the hands of John Coleman’s side. In for what on paper should be another overwhelming test when they make the trip to Bloomfield Road in midweek, we’re backing what should be a routine home victory on Wednesday night.
