Only looking to pile more pressure onto Southend this weekend, Boreham Wood will welcome the Shrimpers to Meadow Park on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Boreham Wood would have been disappointed by that 2-1 loss away at Chesterfield last weekend, the Whites managed to make an immediate return to winning ways. Claiming a deserved 1-0 victory away at King’s Lynn, Luke Garrard’s side find themselves battling it out in the promotion chase. Clearly making a host of improvements over the summer, the Hertfordshire-based outfit currently sits third in the table. Claiming eye-catching back-to-back 2-0 wins against Dagenham & Redbridge and Torquay earlier in the month, Boreham Wood have also continued to shine on home soil. Winning each of their last three National League contests at Meadow Lane and unbeaten in front of their own supporters so far this season, the Whites should be smelling a golden chance here.

As for the visitors, while Boreham Wood might be enjoying a real purple patch, the same cannot be said for a struggling Southend side. Losing their League Two status last season, the Essex-based outfit find themselves battling it out at the foot of the National League standings. In the midst of what has become a very public nightmare, the Blues were last seen putting in another torrid display. Eventually getting hit with a 3-0 drumming away at Dagenham & Redbridge, Southend have now lost six of their last seven fifth-tier outings. Knowing that they face a stern test on their travels this weekend, Saturday’s guests have also claimed just a single National League victory since opening the 2021/22 campaign. Given what has been a huge gulf in class between the two sides, a home victory appears at attractive odds.
