Both teams to score at Aston Villa vs Everton 8/11 for Thursday’s Premier League showdown

Competition: Premier League

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 8/11 @ 888sport

Looking to extend on their European charge in midweek, Everton will make the trip to an empty Villa Park on Thursday evening.

Starting with the hosts, while Aston Villa might have managed to snatch that 2-1 victory away at Goodison Park when opening May, Dean Smith’s side failed to keep up that momentum over the weekend. Despite taking a 1-0 lead against Europa League finalists Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, the former Brentford boss saw his side eventually get hit with a 3-1 loss on home soil. Failing to fill the void left by an injured Jack Grealish, Villa now find themselves in an uphill battle to secure a top-half finish this season. With just a single victory from their last five Premier League matchups, Thursday’s hosts have also shown some extended issues at the back. Along with shipping a trio of second-half goals against Manchester United last time out, Smith’s men have failed to record a clean sheet in their last eight straight top-flight contests.

As for the visitors, while Everton would have been disappointed to have seen Villa snatch that 2-1 win on Merseyside earlier in the month, The Blues managed to make an eye-catching return to winning ways over the weekend. Eventually grabbing a 1-0 win against Champions League outsiders West Ham in the capital, Carlo Ancelotti’s side have their sights set on making a late charge for the European spots. Knowing that victory at Villa Park this week could skyrocket them into the top-six, the former Napoli boss should be boosted by his side’s remarkable success away from Goodison. Including that victory in East London on Sunday, it should be noted that only Manchester City (13) have won more Premier League away games than Everton (11) this season. With three of the last four meetings between Thursday’s opponents finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome in midweek.
