With a spot in the semi-final of this year’s DFP Pokal up for grabs in midweek, a high-flying Bayer Leverkusen will host Union Berlin on Wednesday evening.

Starting with the hosts, putting in another eye-catching display and picking up a point against title outsiders RB Leipzig over the weekend, Bayer Leverkusen have continued to take Germany by storm since opening the New Year. Firmly still in the race to secure a Champions League finish this season, Peter Bosz’s men also booked their spot in the quarter-final of this year’s Europa League thanks to a stunning 5-2 aggregate win against Portuguese giants Porto. Winning six of their last seven and tasting defeat just once since the 18th of December, Leverkusen have also continued to shine at the BayArena. Despite landing just a sole clean sheet on home soil over the past five weeks, Wednesday’s hosts have won each of their last five straight matchups in front of their own supporters.

As for the visitors, while Union Berlin may have been disappointed to have had to settle for a point against Wolfsburg over the weekend after leading by two goals, Die Eisernen have been Germany’s surprise package this season. Breaking into the top half of the Bundesliga table in their maiden year in Germany’s top-tier, Urs Fischer’s men have lost just one of their last five contests and have a growing reputation for their performances on the road. Including a 2-1 win away at Europa League outfit Eintracht Frankfurt last month, Union have won their last three matches outside of Berlin and will be looking to cause an upset in midweek. With five of the last six combined matchups between the two sides seeing both teams find the net, we’re backing a similar outcome on Wednesday night.
