Days removed from their thriller on the South Coast last weekend, Brighton and Manchester United will meet on Wednesday night when they turn their attention to EFL Cup duties.

Starting with the hosts, while Brighton would have rightfully been left heartbroken and frustrated not to have left the Amex with at least something to show on Saturday lunchtime, Graham Potter should take away a string of positives. Hitting the woodwork five times, a Premier League record, the one-time Swansea boss saw his men create a string of chances and on another day they would have left with all three points in the bag. With some billing them as a potential dark horse this season and really impressing many with their eye-catching 3-0 romp away at St. James’ Park last week, it could be worth keeping an eye out for leading marksman Neal Maupay on Wednesday night. While the Frenchman might have given away that last-gasp penalty at the Amex only a few days ago, the one-time Brentford striker has now bagged three goals in his back-to-back Premier League appearances.

As for the visitors, although Bruno Fernandes’ injury-time penalty might have helped Manchester United collect their first Premier League win of the season at the Amex, it does not cover what was another worrying display for the former champions. With Head Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the first to admit that has side were hugely lucky to have left the South Coast with maximum points over the weekend, the Red Devils have continued to show some real issues at the back. Marking their return to action with what was a shocking 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace earlier in the month, their certainly is a mood of animosity around Old Trafford. With Saturday’s matchup at the Amex producing a string of chances and plenty of drama, we’re backing another lively contest in midweek.
