Smelling a real chance on the road in midweek, Roma will make the trip to the Stadio Ezio Scida when they face off against Crotone on Wednesday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Crotone might have managed to pick up a much-needed 2-1 win against Parma when heading into the festive break, I Pitagorici came crashing back down to reality over the weekend. Despite taking a shock lead away at Inter Milan, Giovanni Stroppa’s men were hit with a 6-2 drumming at the San Siro and they still find themselves at the heart of a relegation scrap. Still sat two points adrift at the foot of the table and seen as leading relegation contender, fans around the Stadio Ezio Scida will at least take some solace from their recent improvements on home soil. Although Crotone might still be seeking their first home clean sheet since opening the 2020/2021 campaign, Wednesday’s hosts have managed to land back-to-back Serie A victories in Calabria.

As for the visitors, marking their return from Italy’s festive break with a 1-0 victory against Sampdoria on home soil, the mood in Roma’s camp should be at a real high. With it appearing that their 4-1 drumming at Atalanta last month was just a minor blip, Paulo Fonseca’s men have collected 12 points from their last five Serie A contests. Knowing that victory in midweek could see them move just three points adrift of the league leaders, it should be well worth keeping an eye out for the red-hot Edin Dzeko. While Roma might have gained a reputation for their extended inconsistencies at the back, the one-time Manchester City star has only continued to shine. Once again bagging the winner against Sampdoria over the weekend, the 34-year-old has found the net in his last three Serie A contests on the spin. In a showdown that could prove to be a lively encounter, we’re backing both teams to find the net.
