Hoping to continue on what has been an eye-catching return from the enforced break, Western United will make the trip to McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday morning.

Starting with the hosts, while Newcastle were rightfully disappointed to have only collected a point against a rock-bottom Central Coast last time out, there is no doubt that the Jets will be boosted by what was a stunning return to action a fortnight ago. Shocking many across the A-League and snatching the most dramatic of late winners away at runaway leaders Sydney, Carl Robinson’s side have enjoyed an eye-catching second-half to this year’s campaign. Making their first appearance at the McDonald Jones Stadium since the restart, Newcastle have lost just one of their last 10 contests and simply have their sights set on ending the year on a high. There is no doubt that the one-time Wales midfielder will be boosted by his side’s continued success on home soil prior to the interruption. Including back-to-back 2-1 victories against Perth and Melbourne City, the Jets are unbeaten in their last five matchups on home soil.

As for the visitors, putting in another professional display last week, Western United have returned from football’s enforced break where they left off back in March. Picking up a 2-1 win against Melbourne Victory last time out, Mark Rudan’s men find themselves in the midst of a three-match winning run, their most fruitful spell of the season so far. Knowing that they still have an outside chance of securing a spot in the Final Series if they can extend on their recent purple patch, they have also gained a string of plaudits for their scintillating form in the final third. Including marking their return from the interruption with a thumping 5-1 romp against top-six outfit Adelaide, Western United have bagged 13 strikes on their three-match winning run and they have one leading marksman enjoying his own stunning run of form. Once again finding the net against Melbourne last time out, Max Burgess has recorded five goals in his last three appearances and should be looking to cash in on his recent purple patch this weekend.
