Facing what could be another tricky test as they return to action this weekend, a downbeat Manchester United will make the trip to St. James’ Park on Saturday night.

Starting with the hosts, while many around St. James’ Park had some real concerns over the summer, Newcastle have shocked many with what has been a very impressive start to the New Year. With it appearing that their thumping defeat against Brighton last month was just a minor blip, Steve Bruce’s men entered the international break with a 3-1 win against Burnley on home soil and they have now lost just a single competitive contests so far this season. Marking their return to action by collecting seven points, the former Sunderland boss will also be glad to see one of his summer arrivals really hit the ground running. Putting in a Man of the Match display at St. James’ Park earlier in the month, Callum Wilson bagged a brace on home soil and has already recorded four Premier League goals in as many appearances since making a £20million move from Bournemouth.

As for the visitors, putting in what was nothing short than a comical display before heading into the international break, Manchester United have the feel of a club in the midst of a real crisis. Throwing away the lead in stunning fashion, they were hit with what will be remembered as a famous 6-1 hammering at the hands of Tottenham at Old Trafford earlier in the month. With the pressure now firmly on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position, it is no surprise that the former champions are dealing with a string of rather glaring issues at the back. Shipping at least a pair of strikes in all three of their opening Premier League appearances so far this year, the Red Devils could already be looking for a new man in the dugout. In a contest that could produce more fireworks as United travel to St. James’ Park this weekend, we’re backing both teams to find the net on Saturday night.
