Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Premier Division table, Shamrock Rovers will welcome Waterford to the Tallaght Stadium on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Shamrock might still just about be hanging onto their spot at the top of the Premier Division table, they are in the midst of what has become a worrying blip. Now with just their goal difference keeping their noses ahead of St Patrick’s Athletic, Head Coach Stephen Bradley is desperate for his side to find a much-needed bounce. Despite making the trip to Finn Harps last weekend tipped as a leading pick to land maximum points, the defending Irish champions were hit with a shock 2-1 defeat on the road. Also crashing out of the FAI Cup at the hands of Bohemians when drawing a close to August, the Hoops are now enduring what has been a nightmare four-match losing run across all formats. With almost every contest now a must-win, Bradley will know that his struggling squad must find some resolve at the back.

As for the visitors, managing to come from behind and grabbing a late point in their 1-1 draw against Dundalk last time out, Waterford still find themselves firmly looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Breathing new life into their fight for survival, the Blues open this weekend’s fixtures holding just a one-point buffer from falling into the relegation play-off spot. However, largely managing to bounce back from that 2-1 defeat at the hands of St Patrick’s last month, Head Coach Marc Bircham has seen his side lose just one of their last nine matchups across all formats, a run that stems back to July 2nd. Although Waterford might make the trip to the Tallaght Stadium on Friday tipped as a real underdog, they could be smelling a chance to test a leaky Shamrock defence here.
