Both teams to score at Southampton vs Newcastle 7/10 for Friday’s Premier League showdown

Competition: Premier League

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 7/10 @ 888sport

In a battle between two sides who find themselves in the midst of eye-catching runs, Southampton will host Newcastle from behind closed doors on Friday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Southampton would have been disappointed to have seen Aston Villa mount that shock late comeback last weekend, the Saints did manage to leave the Midlands with that stunning 4-3 win. In the midst of what has been a real purple patch and with just their goal difference keeping them outside of the top-four, they have collected 13 points from their last five Premier League appearances. With the red-hot Danny Ings continuing his free-scoring run away at Villa Park last time out, Head Coach Ralph Hasenhüttl has seen his side show their clinical edge in the final third. Along with ending Everton’s unbeaten start to the New Year with a 2-0 victory at St. Mary’s last month, Southampton have now bagged 11 goals in just their last four outings.

As for the visitors, while Newcastle might have been hit with a late 4-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United last month, the Magpies have really bounced back in some style. Also managing to pick up their own victory over Everton last weekend thanks to a 2-1 win on home soil, Steve Bruce’s men have lost just one of their last seven matches across all competitions and they also have their own leading marksman enjoying a real purple patch. Bagging a brace against the Toffees last time out, Callum Wilson has already racked up six top-flight strikes so far this season since making the move from Bournemouth over the summer. It should also be noted, including winning their last three matchups against Southampton, they’re unbeaten against Friday’s hosts since 2016.
