Brazilian striker Ailton Almedia has left Danish side FC Copenhagen to join Cypriot outfit APOEL Nicosia. The 25 year old, on whom FCK splashed out 22 million kroner in 2007, has signed a three year contract with APOEL.

Ailton started his career with Atletico Mineiro and had loan spells at Tupi and Corinthians (AL) before joining Örgryte in 2004. After nearly three years at the Swedish club, he was the subject of a transfer battle between FCK and Brondby IF which was eventually won by the former.

The transfer fee that APOEL have paid for Ailton has not been revealed, but reports estimate to be around 7 million kroner, less than one of third of what FCK paid Orgyte for the player.
