According to a recent report from Sport Bild, Gianluigi Buffon is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window as the club will not be offering him a new contract. The 41 year old was initially expected to sign a brand new deal with the French champions, but instead, they are expected to recall Kevin Trapp from Eintracht Frankfurt. Buffon is widely considered to be one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of the sport, but given his age, it certainly feels like his time at the top level is coming to an end.
This kind of move is certainly a risk for PSG, as there’s always the possibility that Buffon decides to keep on playing with another top team. If he does wind up retiring, though, it’ll mark the end of one of the truly great careers in the beautiful game.
