Burnley 11/8 to beat Sheffield United in Tuesday’s Premier League showdown

Competition: Premier League

Market: Burnley win

Odds: 11/8 @ 888sport

With a real chance to make an immediate return to winning ways on Tuesday evening, Burnley will welcome Sheffield United to an empty Turf Moor.

Starting with the hosts, while on paper Burnley might have left Elland Road with a 1-0 loss on Sunday lunchtime, that doesn’t quite tell the whole story. At the heart of more VAR controversy, Sean Dyche’s men missed a string of late chances against Premier League returners Leeds and there is no doubt that the Clarets will be glad to make a return to home soil in midweek. Still managing to find themselves a route out of the drop zone after what was a largely impressive run throughout December, Burnley have gained a reputation for their recent success on home soil. Last seen at Turf Moor when picking up a very eye-catching 2-1 victory against Wolves earlier in the month, Tuesday’s hosts have collected seven points from just their last three top-flight contests in Lancashire.

As for the visitors, while they might have once again put in a rugged display over the weekend, it was more Bramall Lane heartbreak for Sheffield United. Drastically failing to match the level they set last season, Chris Wilder’s men have only continued to break unwanted records by the week so far this season. Entering Christmas Day sat rock-bottom of the table, the Blades have managed to muster just a pair of points since opening the 2020/2021 campaign, the lowest points tally recorded by a top-flight team in English footballing history. In fact, also signing of last year’s extended season by losing each of their final three Premier League contests on the bounce, United have remarkably managed to collect just two points from their last 18 top-flight matchups. Hit with a 1-0 loss against Everton on Boxing Day, Wilder’s side should face another stern test in midweek.
