Cahill: England can top group

England have an excellent chance of finishing top of Group G and qualifying automatically for Euro 2012, according to defender Gary Cahill.

Bolton Wanderers man Cahill scored his first international goal as England beat Bulgaria 3-0 in Sofia on Friday.

The win took them three points clear of Montenegro at the top of the group, with two matches remaining.

Victory over Wales on Tuesday would all but secure England’s passage to next year’s finals in Poland and the Ukraine.

Cahill believes Wales will be challenging opponents at Wembley Stadium, especially after their surprise 2-1 victory over Montenegro last time out.

“With us being at home you’d like to think that we’ll have a lot of the ball and a lot of possession,” Cahill said.

“But it’s going to be a difficult game, trying to get a good result off the back of the game the other night and trying to get a positive result on Tuesday night.”

“The table’s looking healthy at the minute.”

“Wales did us a favour the other night.”

Fresh from a starting berth in the victory over Bulgaria, Arsenal forward Theo Walcott believes the time has come for England to improve their patchy record at Wembley.

“We won’t look too far ahead, we’ll just concentrate on Tuesday,” Walcott said.

“It’s going to be tough, they (Wales) got a nice little boost of confidence winning against Montenegro.”

“We want to make Wembley into a fortress.”

“Previous games we haven’t managed to do that. We’ve still managed to get the results but we need to take our away form to Wembley.”

“I’m sure it will come, it will take time – the pitch is terrific there so there’s not really any excuses at all.”
