Cambridge United 2/1 to beat Carlisle in Saturday’s League Two showdown

Competition: League Two

Market: Cambridge United win

Odds: 2/1 @ 888sport

Looking to shore up their spot in the automatic positions this weekend, Cambridge will make the trip to an empty Brunton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Carlisle might have shocked many after what was a bright first-half of the campaign, The Cumbrians have really failed to keep up that momentum. Watching their play-off ambitions take a major dent and now in a battle to maintain their spot in the top-half of the table, The Blues were last seen in midweek getting hit with late heartbreak on home soil. Eventually hit with a 1-0 loss against Leyton Orient at Brunton Park, Chris Beech’s side really failed to bounce back from that 3-1 drumming against Stevenage last weekend. With just a single point to their name in their last three matchups and it appearing that their 3-1 win against Bradford earlier in the month was just a minor bounce, Carlisle have won just one of their last 12 straight League Two contests, a run that stems all the way back to the end of January.

As for the visitors, while Cambridge might have been hit with that 2-1 defeat against fellow high-flyers Bolton earlier in the month, they have certainly bounced back in an eye-catching fashion. Still sat in pole position to secure an automatic promotion spot this year, The U’s were last seen picking up what could be a crucial 1-0 win against fellow top-three chasers Forest Green. Showing a string of improvements from last year and shocking many across League Two this season, Head Coach Mark Bonner has seen his squad pick up nine points from their last four fourth-tier contests. Along with winning three of their last four matchups on the road, it should also be noted that they landed a thumping 3-0 win when they welcomed Carlisle to The Abbey Stadium back in September.
