Carroll completes West Ham switch

West Ham United have completed the signing of England striker Andy Carroll from Liverpool for a club record £15million.

The 24 year old has signed a six year contract, with an option of a further two years after passing his medical yesterday evening.

The transfer fee, which eclipses the figure paid for winger Matt Jarvis last summer, was agreed between the sides a month ago, though the move was delayed after the player was said be unsure of moving ahead of next summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

However, with his chances of securing a first team place at Anfield increasingly limited, the former Newcastle United man has finally agreed a deal with the club where he spent the majority of last season on loan.

Despite missing almost two months of the campaign through injury, Carroll made twenty-four league appearances for the Hammers, scoring seven goals and adding four assists.
