Competition: League One

Market: Charlton win

Odds: 7/5 @ 888sport

Hoping to try and find a route back into the top-half of the League One table in midweek, Charlton will make the trip to Gresty Road on Wednesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Crewe might have signed off 2021 with a much-needed 2-1 win against Morecambe on the road, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for the relegation scrappers. Last seen on January 4th getting hit with an action-packed 4-2 defeat against Rotherham on home soil, David Artell’s men have lost three of their last four matchups across all formats. Last seen on League One duties getting hit with a 4-1 drumming against Burton, the Reds could be in for another tough test on Wednesday night. Suffering back-to-back losses at Gresty Road, the Cheshire-based outfit should also be worried by their most recent meeting against the Londoners. Suffering a 2-0 defeat when the two sides faced off back in August, they have failed to win any of their seven matchups against Charlton.

As for the visitors, while Charlton might have opened the 2021/22 campaign with their sights set on clinching a play-off spot, Johnnie Jackson’s squad find themselves still battling it out in the bottom-half. However, while the Addicks might have also lost three of their last four matchups across all formats, they should be boosted by a largely rugged display over the weekend. Unlucky to have suffered a close-fought 1-0 loss against Premier League outfit Norwich on home soil, the Londoners will be looking to kickstart their campaign here. Enjoying a real flurry last month that saw them claim four wins on the bounce, Wednesday’s guests have also claimed some impressive scalps. Landing that 2-0 win when they faced off against Crewe back in August, we’re backing a similar away victory for Jackson’s side in midweek.
