After sacking Avram Grant only a few days after the lost Champions League final, Chelsea have now also terminated the contract of assistant manager Henk ten Cate.

Ten Cate joined the Blues in the first half of this season, leaving his position as head coach of Ajax Amsterdam.

It is reported that the candidates that Chelsea have in mind, would all want to bring along their own assistants.

The decision will come as a surprise to the Dutchman, who claimed to have been told by chairman Peter Kenyon that Grant’s sacking wouldn’t affect him.

Two of the candidates to succeed Grant are Dutchmen Guus Hiddink and Frank Rijkaard. With the latter, Ten Cate is said to have had a rather bad relationship during their cooperation at FC Barcelona.
