City to put trust in Mendy

Manchester City are prepared to take a risk and put their full trust in Benjamin Mendy for the near future, according to Sky Sports.

Having previously played for Le Havre and Marseille, Mendy had a fantastic 2016/17 season with AS Monaco and arrived at City on the back of it as one of the planet’s most expensive fullbacks, for a reorted fee of £52 million.

However, his career at the Etihad has so far been thoroughly riddled with injuries. He has made a meagre 22 appearances in all competitions over two seasons, and it has been either Fabian Delph or Oleksandr Zinchenko who filled in, with Danilo also making an occasional contribution. Manager Pep Guardiola has twice spoken about his thoughts of signing a new player for the left defensive flank.

But it seems the defending Premier League champions are reluctant to go down that path at least for now, and they plan to stick with the 24-year-old France international. Mendy has now returned to fitness, and even started three games in April. The club’s hope is that the long-standing injury issues are behind him now.
