Looking to widen their buffer at the top of the Serie B table in midweek, Coritiba will welcome Brusque to the Estádio Couto Pereira late on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Coritiba might have been disappointed by their 1-0 loss against Botafogo when drawing a close to August, the Serie B leaders did make an immediate return to winning ways. Still holding a two-point buffer at the top of the table and tipped by many across Brazil as the leading pick in the promotion chase, Head Coach Gustavo Morinigo saw his side pick up an action-packed 3-2 win away at Londrina over the weekend. Now collecting nine points from just their last four second-tier outings, a run that also saw them land a 2-0 win away at Avaí last month, Coritiba have also lost just a pair of matchups since the end of July. Despite watching their stunning nine-match unbeaten run at the Estádio Couto Pereira come to an end at the hands of Botafogo, there is no doubt that they should be smelling a golden chance here.

As for the visitors, while Coritiba might be leading the chase at the top of the Serie B table, Brusque find themselves in the midst of what has been an extended blip. Almost stuck in second-tier limbo, Bruscão have now failed to win any of their last eight straight contests, a run that stems all the way back to August 1st, Jerson Testoni’s side have gained a reputation for their rather glaring problems in the final third. Now having to settle for back-to-back 0-0 stalemates against Avai and Londrina on home soil, the midweek guests have failed to bag a single goal in over 350 minutes of action. With their downbeat run highlighted by a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Ponte Preta on August 23rd, Testoni’s men should face another stern test when they travel to the Estádio Couto Pereira.
