Coutinho set to reject Newcastle

According to a recent report from Sport, Philippe Coutinho plans to reject all approaches from Newcastle United.

The expectation has largely been that the Magpies would make a move to sign the Brazilian during the January transfer window. However, instead of accepting a return to the Premier League, Coutinho will instead opt to stick it out at the Nou Camp.

The introduction of Xavi as the club’s new manager appears to have lit a fire underneath Coutinho when it comes to his future. While there’s no guarantee that it’ll lead to a successful renaissance, he clearly cares about how he’s remembered in Spain.

Things have been pretty uneven for Coutinho ever since he left Liverpool. At Anfield, he was on top of the world – but that simply isn’t the case with Barcelona.

The club is clearly going through a reboot phase, so who knows, maybe this is exactly the push he needs.
