Philadelphia Union beat New York City in the MLS by 2-1 at the Subaru Park in a highly exciting, intense, and overall unusual match.

Mikael Uhre broke the deadlock with a goal that put Union in front after eight minutes.

In the 16th minute, Union could have gone further up, but City goalkeeper Sean Johnson pulled a superb point-blank save.

In the 78th minute, a scuffle broke out, eventually resulting in referee Armando Villarreal deciding to show the red card to Union physio, Paul Rushing.

With just over a minute of the 90 remaining on the clock, City got what they believed would be a point-saving equalizer as Valentin Castellanos converted from the spot.

But as it turned out, it was Union who had the final word.
