Competition: Bundesliga II

Market: Darmstadt win

Odds: 10/11 @ 888sport

Hoping to find a route to the top of the Bundesliga II table this weekend, Darmstadt will welcome Dusseldorf to Hesse on Friday evening.

Starting with the hosts, putting in another professional display last weekend as they secured a deserved 2-1 win away at Aue, there is no doubt that Darmstadt have shocked many across Germany this season. Continuing to impress on either side of the international break and marking their return to action with a stunning 4-0 romp against St. Pauli, the mood in Torsten Lieberknecht’s camp should be at a real high. Opening Friday’s contest knowing that a victory would briefly send them to the top of the table, the Lilies will be smelling the chance to lay down a real marker here. Unbeaten in each of their last seven outings, and recording six victories, Darmstadt will also be boosted by their remarkable form on home soil. Including hitting league leaders St. Pauli for four, this weekend’s hosts have won each of their last six matchups in Hesse, scoring 20 goals.

As for the visitors, while Dusseldorf might have marked their return from November’s international break with a 2-1 win against Heracles, it appears that might just be a minor boost for Christian Preußer’s men. Suffering back-to-back 1-0 defeats against Heidenheim and Dresden, the Reds have found themselves come tumbling down the Bundesliga II standings. Mustering just a single victory from any of their last six outings, a run that stems back to October 23rd, Dusseldorf should be in for a huge task on Friday night. Up against a Darmstadt side who are in the midst of a free-scoring run, they have also shown a host of issues on the road. Losing each of their last three away fixtures, including a 3-0 drumming against Hannover, we’re backing a home victory in Hesse.
