According to a report from Bild, Barcelona’s pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt may have hit something of a stumbling block. The Ajax youngster has been heavily linked with a move away from the Dutch giants for quite some time now, with the Spanish champions being the primary contenders – but there’s one very specific issue that could prevent things from reaching the next level.

That issue is his potential wage demands, as de Ligt’s agent is expected to advise him to go to the club with the highest wage offer. That’s likely going to open the door for both Juventus and Bayern Munich, who are expected to put in sizeable offers in order to bring him to their club.

The 19 year old has been with Ajax’s youth setup ever since he was nine years old, and given that the club have been on a great run of form both domestically and in Europe, some have questioned whether or not he’ll end up doing a U-turn by staying.
