Portsmouth have one leg in the next round of the UEFA Cup following a 2-0 home win over Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes.

Lassana Diarra put Pompey in the lead after 39 minutes, combining with Jermain Defoe before volleying past the goalkeeper.

Both Vitoria and Portsmouth then had chances to score from the penalty spot, but Joao Paulo Fajardo and Defoe failed to do so.

As for Defoe, he made up for that mistake by netting Portsmouth’s second on the hour mark.
