Diego Costa set for Qatar move?

Diego Costa of Atletico Madrid could be heading to Qatar soon with Al Rayyan prepared to do whatever it takes to sign the experienced striker, according to AS.

The Qatari side are extremely keen on getting the deal done as early as January, but if that proves impossible, they would be prepared to wait for the summer too. The negotiations with the player have apparently already been held, but at the moment, Atletico aren’t willing to let him go halfway through the season despite head coach Diego Simeone having the likes of Joao Felix, Alvaro Morata and Ivan Saponjic to fall back on. They may, however, consider allowing him to leave at the end of the season for a suitable fee, given that his contract doesn’t expire before 2021.

Al Rayyan were initially interested in Mario Mandzukic of Juventus, but they failed to agree the transfer and have now moved on to Costa. If the former Chelsea man leaves, Atletico could turn to Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani.
