Drogba still crucial to the Chelsea

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has confessed that he may not finish his career at the Blues.

The veteran striker has played a key role in Chelsea topping the Premier League table and scoring 21 league goals already this season.

Assists

The Ivory Coast international has been in superb creative form this season. Although his main job is goal scoring he has created nearly as many goals as he’s scored. Drogba has also contributed five Premier League goals so far.

Elsewhere

He told Canal Plus: “When I signed a new contract at Chelsea, I always said I wanted to finish my career here.

“But I am well placed to say that anything can happen.

“When I was at Marseille I said I would finish my career there but, one week later, everything changed.”

Drogba isn’t a shrinking violet and will always voice his opinion on given subject. He has the sort of edge that most top players have and it seems he is just keeping his options open. I’m sure he would have a choice of destinations if he chooses to leave Stamford Bridge.

Marseille

He has said in the past that he would like to play for Marseille again. He made his name in France with the French champions and it would probably be the most likely destination for the striker if he did ever leave Chelsea.

MLS

Lots of his peers have decided to head to the MLS for a big payday and a slightly lower standard of football. Could Drogba join the likes of David Beckham, Thierry Henry and Rafa Marquez in the American top flight?

Aging

Even at 32 years –old Drogba is still one of the most threatening strikers in Europe. He has scored goals and terrorised defences all over Europe and isn’t showing much signs of his career coming to an end. The question he would have to ask himself is would he want to move before his talent starts to decline?

Silverware

The Ivory Coast international will be crucial to Chelsea’s charge for silverware this season. In fact he will probably be the key figure in their challenge for Champions League and Premier League glory. Chelsea will need him to be in top form if they are going to challenge on all fronts.

I can’t see Drogba leaving Chelsea anytime soon. He still has two years left on his contract with Chelsea and I expect him to stay for the foreseeable future. However if and when he does leave I believe his best days will be well behind him.

However Didier Drogba is a fierce competitor so I’m sure whichever club sign him he’ll give his all to, even if he won’t be tearing up defences in the same fashion he has done for the last six or so years.

Will Drogba finish his career at Chelsea?

@Cularfin…That is what worries me…there is speedy Sturridge, but he doesn’t even come close to DD or Nico right now…I’m screaming for Chelsea to push their youth on to the grand stage more often, and Carlo is trying, but overall there is a serious concern to me about where Chelsea will be in 3-5 years without these faces we see today.

I’m not sure he would’ve kept Chelsea from losing though, if he had stayed on. the city defenders made sure to that.

I don’t think Drogba liked it when he was substituted in the Man City match were chelsea was defeated. This is the route cause of all this, where a player does not agree with the substitution the coach makes and goes into the tunnel rather than sit with the rest of the team. Soccer is a team work and if a coach sees through the game that such a change is required the player should flow with it. Drogba is who he is today because of Chelsea, he must never forget that. Thank you.

If he were to leave the EPL as a whole, that would be a big loss for the league. He outta stay, even though that means more inevitable goals against MUFC.

I think he should b/c Chelsea will treat him right. And, if he stays till his last day at Chelsea, he will be revered forever like no other.
