Everton go after Toney

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Everton have set their sights on trying to sign Brentford forward Ivan Toney.

The in-form striker has played a key role in guiding the Bees back into the top six, and back into contention for promotion. Brentford already sold a few of their top names during the summer transfer window after losing the Championship play-off final to Fulham, and if they can’t keep hold of Toney, they could be in real trouble in the second half of the season.

Still, the prospect of making the immediate jump up to the top flight must be intriguing – especially when it’s for a team like Everton. The Toffees are under the tutelage of Carlo Ancelotti and while they’ve struggled with consistency in recent weeks, they could well be in the mix for a place in Europe at the end of the season – and that’s an important step up for them, and potentially Toney.
