Everton to make shock bid for Aubameyang?

No, the title is not a joke. Reports this week have suggested that Everton’s new manager Sam Allardyce wants to make a £60m bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the Mirror.

The Toffees sold star striker Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in the summer, and have really felt his absence so far this season. Everton have only just turned their form around, having a few weeks ago been languishing down in the relegation zone, despite having spent over £100m before the season.

Now they have decided they need a proper striker to replace the Belgian, and the man they want is Aubameyang. The Gabonese international has been a goal scoring machine for Dortmund, with 139 goals in 209 games across all competitions.

The forward was ranked the 21st best player in the world last night at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, so could Everton really acquire his services? One thing that is certain is that Allardyce will face competition from a number of clubs, not least Merseyside rivals Liverpool, who have also be linked with Aubameyang.
