Once again turning our attention to this weekend’s Belarusian Premier League fixtures, a high-flying FC Slutsk will be hoping to extend on their stellar run of form and widen their buffer at the top of the table when they host Energetyk-BGU on Friday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while Slutsk might have only just managed to avoid the drop last season, few would have expected what has been an outstanding start for the Blues. Picking up what was an eye-catching 2-1 win away at Europa League outfit Dinamo Minsk last weekend, Vitaliy Pavlov’s men have won their last three Premier League matches on the bounce and have lost just one of their opening seven contests. Holding a two-point buffer at the top of the table opening Friday’s meeting, a huge part of Slutsk’s recent purple patch has come thanks to their glittering form in the final third. Bagging 10 goals in their last five appearances, the Blues comfortably hold the best-attacking record in the division.

As for the visitors, while Energetyk-BGU may have managed to pick up what was a much-needed 2-0 win away at a struggling Smolevichy-STI last weekend, they too are in the midst of a worrying patch. Losing three of their last four, including consecutive defeats against Torpedo BelAZ, Gorodeya, and a 3-0 hammering against Neman Grodno, Vladimir Belyavskiy’s men have also lost two of their last three Premier League matchups on the road. Even more worrying for Friday’s guests, they do also hold a worrying record against the league leaders. Hit with a 1-0 defeat when the two sides faced off last season, Energetyk-BGU have managed to land just a single strike in each of their last three meetings against Slutsk and could be in for another tricky test this week.
