Without too many difficulties, Fenerbahçe defeated Partizan Belgrade in the third preliminary round of the Champions League on Wednesday to reach the group phase of the European tournament.

With a 2-2 result in the first leg, pressure was on the Serbian side to attack and earn an away goal in the second.

But the Turkish hosts were too strong. Senturk scored close to the half hour mark and Alex doubled the gap in the 58th minute.

Partizan’s Tosic did get one back in the 76th minute, giving the home fans a tense final phase.

‘Fener’ held on to their lead though and are the only Turkish team in the Champions League this year as Galatasaray failed to survive this round.
