Ferdinand set for Man United return?

According to a recent report from Sky Sports News, Rio Ferdinand is believed to be one of the candidates in the discussion to take over as Manchester United’s new sporting director. The role, which has just recently been created,  will focus on the transfer market, as the Red Devils look to re-build in the summer following a fairly turbulent campaign. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be more than willing to work with a sporting director in order to scout out the best possible signings for United, which is viewed as an improvement from Jose Mourinho who was strictly against the idea.

This rumour has certainly caused some confusion for United fans, who have questioned what kind of credentials Rio has to handle such a position. Some are willing to give him a chance to prove himself, but overall, the reception is pretty mixed – and probably will be for quite some time if he gets the job.
